High Bay Lights- The Preferred Choice of Lighting in Industries

The term “high bay light” refers to light fixtures that are designed to be utilised in places with ceiling heights of more than 20 feet and up to 40 feet. As a result, high bay lights are required to fill wide regions with uniform strong light.

High bay lights are usually suspended from the ceiling using hooks, chains, or pendants, or they can be fastened directly to the ceiling like traditional troffer light fixtures.

They are not, however, identical to troffer lights, which employ several fluorescent or LED tubes.

When compared to its alternatives, an LED high bay fixture is a compactly built small or large light that gives incredibly brighter lumens and has some significant advantages when it comes to completely replacing other lighting fixtures.

Aside from the luminance, uniformity of illumination, and color calibration, which are all significant considerations in large-scale industries, these lights essentially improve the working environments which include high-risk jobs involving machinery and combustible substances. In such locations, the usage of these fixtures is required for the benefit of the workers and to provide them with a safer working environment.

Applications

The most common application of these fixtures can be found in various industries and facilities which are:

  • Warehouses
  • Airports
  • Community centres
  • Departmental stores
  • Shopping malls
  • Schools
  • Gymnasiums
  • Recreational centres
  • Industries

Here due to large spaces and long hours of light usage high bay lights are conventional, effective and sustainable options.

Types of high bay lights

They are available in several different designs with varying efficiency and features. In order to choose the best one you need to have a layout of your space and choose from round, grid and linear high bays.

Round:

The round high bay light, also known as ufo high bay light, is the most popular design of a simple high bay fixture. Despite their moderate size and concentricity, they are chosen because they offer a wide spreading beam angle that evenly distributes light over a large region. Additional advantages include the parts’ availability and the fact that they are relatively simple to assemble, lowering expenditures.

linear/Grid:

Linear and grid mounted high bays are two more typical designs and layouts. They have a similar design to troffer lights and are suspended from the ceiling by pendants or chains.

Because of their compactness and wide beam angle, consumers continue to prefer round high bays, which are also easy to carry and move.

Why are LEDs preferred over Halogen lamps?

Leds are the most common and safest lighting option on the market; they are less expensive to maintain and more powerful than halogen and other bright light producing alternatives. The fact that LED technology is environmentally friendly, producing less heat and more light, is one of the reasons for its growing popularity.

They are more energy efficient and brighter; their brightness is measured in lumens, and a 240W led bulb is brighter than a 240W halogen light, according to calculations.

Furthermore, LED lights have a lifespan that is forty times longer than any other lamp, which means there are fewer chances of frequent bulb replacement in places like industries where maintenance is done on a yearly basis or on  contract basis.

Led high bay light fixtures are a preferred choice because of several other reasons as well which you can read here.

In further comparison, it is quite evident how LED light fixtures are more durable and more eccentric when it comes to a fast paced environment with certain requirements, for example:

They have switchable CCT

When it comes to lighting in any space, special consideration is given to ambience. A light fixture which can provide desirable ambiance in a swift way is certainly preferable over a light fixture which provides dull and inefficient light. The correlated colour temperature allows switching between warm yellow light to cool bright light. In industries where daylight-like light is essential LEDs are capable of producing it easily. With remote control options they are also dimmable and switchable. The light is produced on a kelvin scale ranging from 2500K to 6000K where 2500K produces warm yellow light and as the temperature increases it moves towards whiter light.

They have high CRI

The colour rendering index of any LED lamp is almost above 80 which is basic for fluorescent or other fixtures. This renders LED lamps the capability to enhance the visibility, improve the texture and tone of visual elements in the surrounding and most importantly improves focus. Despite this, the light is glare free and easy on the eyes which is essential in working environments to facilitate the workers.

Industries or such areas require long term sustainability and for that reason it is essential to provide such infrastructure. Lighting being the most important one as these are isolated spaces with no natural lighting source. LED light fixtures improve the lighting conditions and function for longer terms which is highly beneficial as an initial investment.
